A community built one walk at a time
Nenagh Walking Club — Aonach ar Siúl — is an open, friendly club for anyone who likes getting out into the hills and along the lake, no matter your age, pace or experience.
Friends who love Ireland's hills.
Nenagh Hillwalking Club is a friendly group of outdoor enthusiasts who love exploring Ireland's hills, mountains and countryside together. Founded in 2000, we welcome walkers of all levels — from gentle strollers to seasoned hikers.
We grade our walks so there's always one to suit you, we walk most weeks of the year, and we look after each other on the hill. As an affiliated club of Mountaineering Ireland, every member is covered by insurance and part of a wider community of walkers.
Whether you want a gentle hour by Lough Derg or a full day on the mountains, there's a place for you here — and siúl as Gaeilge anois is arís. Our Irish-language walks are supported by funding from Foras na Gaeilge.

A quarter century on the hills
- 2000
The club is founded
A friendly group of outdoor enthusiasts comes together in Nenagh to explore Ireland's hills, mountains and countryside.
- Growing
All levels welcome
Walks are graded so there's always one to suit you — from gentle strollers to seasoned hikers — and leaders train in navigation and mountain skills.
- 2025
25 years on the hills
We mark our 25th anniversary with celebration walks and a dinner in the Silvermines — a quarter century of friendships and adventures.
- Today
Still walking
Out most weeks across all grades, with trips further afield and new faces joining us all the time.
Our motto is simple
Three small rules that keep the hills beautiful and welcoming for everyone who comes after us.
Leave no trace
We walk lightly and take our litter home, keeping the hills as we found them.
Take nothing but photos
Plenty of those — the views, the weather and the company, captured for the gallery.
Respect all property
We mind farmland, gates and walls, and treat landowners and locals with courtesy.
Run entirely by volunteers. The club is kept going by members who give their time to plan walks, lead groups and keep everyone safe on the hill. The quickest way to reach the committee is through our Facebook page.
